Lucky is the eleventh track from Radiohead's third studio album, OK Computer.

History

Lucky originated from Ed's experimentation during soundchecks during the Bends tour of 1995. He used a combination of delay and other effects while strumming the strings above the nut of the guitar, and the band liked how it sounded. Ed said about this incident:

“I remember fiddling around in the sound check, [We] were in Japan and [I was] putting together a different pedal order and actually hitting the strings above the nut on the headstock. The pedals that I did it with, and the delay that was going on. It was one of those moments – ‘Yeah, this is pretty cool’.”

This sound can be heard at the very beginning of the track, alongside Phil's ride cymbal.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I'm on a roll
I'm on a roll this time
I feel my luck could change
Kill me Sarah
Kill me again with love
It's gonna be a glorious day

[Chorus]
Pull me out of the aircrash
Pull me out of the lake
Cause I'm your superhero
We are standing on the edge

[Verse 2]
The head of state
Has called for me by name
But I don't have time for him
It's gonna be a glorious day
I feel my luck could change

[Chorus]
Pull me out of the aircrash
Pull me out of the lake
Cause I'm your superhero
We are standing on the edge

[Outro]
We are standing on the edge
